EM Welcomes New Director: Associate Prof. Dr. Zainal Abidin Sanusi

Education Malaysia United Kingdom & Ireland (EM) would like to welcome Associate Prof. Dr. Zainal Abidin Sanusi as the new Director. He replaces Associate Prof. Dr. Mohad Anizu Mohd Nor who left EM in April this year and has been officially starting his duty upon his arrival on 26 October 2015.

Dr. Zainal Abidin has led Centre for Leadership Training, at Higher Education Leadership Academy (AKEPT) for more than four years, combining strong institutional advancement with a distinguished academic career in the study of International Political Economy and Sustainable Development issues. His leadership has been marked by a strong focus on academic excellence, student experience and development of future leaders in the public higher education institutions.

Prior to joining AKEPT in 2011, Dr. Zainal Abidin worked in Pulau Pinang where he was a Senior Lecturer in international politics and also a coordinator for Regional Centre of Expertise on Education for Sustainable Development at University Sains Malaysia (USM).
Dr. Zainal Abidin is an internationally renowned scholar of sustainable development studies, on which he has advised policy makers and others internationally. His publications include: Implimentation of the New Economic Model: The Role of Education for Sustainable Development in Building Knowledge Base Infrustructure.

Whilst at USM he received several honours for the quality of his teaching and research, including the 2011 Endeavor Executive Award, bestowed by the Australian Government, Australia in recognition of exceptional teaching and research.

Born in Pahang, Associate Prof. Dr. Zainal Abidin Sanusi holds a B.A. in Public Policy and Management from Luton University, UK, an MA in International Relations from the International University of Japan, a PhD in International Studies from Waseda University, Japan and Postdoctoral Fellowship in Sustainable Development from Institute of Advance Studies, United Nation University.

EM also would like to thank Mr. Ahmad Tarmizi, Education Attache (Administration & Finance) for taking on the leadership of the agency during this transition period. As Acting Director, Mr. Tarmizi has kept the organization on a strong path, and has managed EM through an important programming and budget period. He has provided a steady set of hands on the wheel, and the Management thanks him and the Team for ensuring the continued vitality of EM during this period.

Associate Prof. Dr. Zainal Abidin Sanusi is looking forward to meeting all of our partners, students, clubs/societies and community members as he settles in to his position.
